December Candy Traditions

It is a Gibb tradition for the women of the family to make Christmas candy the day after Thanksgiving while the men take care of the kids. We have a lot of fun cooking and dipping and chopping and make so much candy it can barely fit in a grocery bag allotted to each family. Every year, we fine tune the candy recipes so they are better than the year before, and everyone gets what they want.

After a minute of thought the other day, I decided that it's not really fair that the kids don't get to participate in the candy making of the season. So we went to the store and bought some almond bark and pretzels, I dressed my boys up in aprons, and we dipped until there was none left. I can't tell you how much fun they had doing it, and they were able to keep thier fingers out of the chocolate until it was bowl-scraping time. Lukas got just a smidge of chocolate on the pretzel, Jeriah did much better, and I caked it on. You can really tell who did what pretzel, and I was so proud of their candy making skills. I know, chocolate dipped pretzels might not be officially called candy, but it's very much at their skill level, so we'll call it candy. Maybe next year we will try something a little more challenging, like, say, Almond Roca.

That sounds like so much fun! I have my second annual candy making extravaganza on Sunday. We do molded chocolates, pretzels, buckeyes, fudge, and anything else we can think of. I can't wait!
