Surprise, Surprise

We have kept Jeriah in diapers during naps and bedtime since he was potty trained, thinking he would wear them for the next few months before we wean him off of them for good. We ran out of them about a week ago and only had Pull-Ups as substitutes.

Mom: Jeriah, we don't have anymore white diapers. You have to wear the car diapers for naptime today.

Jeriah: Car diapers? I put my potty in the toilet and the cars don't go away.

Mom: That's right. If you keep them dry, the pictures will stay on your diaper. If you get them wet, the pictures go away.

So, we used the Pull-Ups for naptime. And bedtime. And naptime. And bedtime. And we are still using them. Why? Because he has woken up dry and clean every single day, wanting to go potty in the toilet. No more dirty diapers first thing in the morning. I just can't believe it! He even woke up in the middle of the night crying out that he had to go potty, which he did, and promptly went right back to sleep. When he woke up in the morning, he quickly went to the toilet and, well...

Such a pleasant surprise for us. This is a huge accomplishment, not for me, but for him. We had nothing to do with this step of potty training. Every morning I'm waiting for him to be wet, and he's not. I'm just not used to this. To have a child absolutely and completely out of diapers and using the bathroom all on their own, wow! Wow.

I had no idea he was capable of going all night and staying dry. He had been soaking his bed almost every morning for the past while, and now I'm sure it was because he had the "baby" diapers and felt too comfortable in them. Switch them out and voila!

Yay for Jeriah! This makes me very very happy. If you can't tell. :)

NICE WORK!!!! I mean, all common sense tells us it's possible. Everyone learns to use the toilet eventually. But actually teaching a child to do it? It's a MIRACLE!

Okay you got my wheels turning. I wonder if this would be the magic trick to get Matthew over this hump. He's out of diapers really soon and I just may switch to the pull-up thing. Wouldn't that be cool if it worked for us as well!!!!!

Interesting ... Noah's got days down pat, but at night he's usually a little bit wet. He's been potty-trained since March and yet we're still using leftover diapers at night. Once those run out, I'm going to give the Pull-Ups a try! Thanks for sharing the tip.
