Family Crafting

We've wanted some things for a little while now, and with doing preschool with the boys, I decided to craft with them and make those things we've been wanting. So, we made lacing cards and placemats!

Lacing Cards: Get two foam sheets with sticky backs. Get a pattern on the internet. On one foam sheet, trace the pattern on the front of the sheet. On the second foam sheet, trace the pattern on the back of the sheet. Cut them out, take the paper off the back, and stick them together. Once they touch, they are stuck on forever, so be precise. Use a hole punch to punch out the holes and decorate it however you like. We used foam letters and just stuck them on.

Placemats: I used 11" x 14" posterboard, but it can really be any size and shape you like. Cut 1.5" borders out of construction paper and tape/glue them on the edges (I used double sided tape and it worked great). Then use stickers, or whatever else you want, to decorate the middle. Print out the names and tape/glue them in the bottom corner. Then, go get them laminated.

Our boys really had fun doing these. I know I'm not a crafty person (I cringe when I have to do crafts at family reunions, as the family well knows), but when there is an opportunity to make something with my kids that is functional and educational as well as adorable, then I just can't help myself. I guess I'm learning to enjoy what comes from my head and many hands.
