CAN YOU BE A KID AGAIN?

the latest adventures with jeriah have to do with going on walks around the grandparent's property. they live out in the country on one acre of land, which is a lot for jeriah to explore. there's the garden, the orchard, the dirt box, the flowers, trees, gravel, thorns, rabbits, snakes, birds, the trampoline, hills, and fun gardening tools. these past few days have been pretty sunny so he's spent more time outside exploring. as a result, he has had a stuffy and runny nose from allergies, but they don't seem to dampen his spirits about going outside. when he's out there, playing by himself, he walks around the property flattening all the mole hills, picking flowers to shake them and throw them on the ground, digging with the shovel and bulldozer in the dirt box, and throwing rocks into whatever hole he finds. together we run up and down little rises in the ground, play with the stroller and tricylce, smell flowers, go on walks up the lane, and check on the garden. it's really fun to be out here and be able to do things with jeriah outside other than just play with a ball on a small plot of grass. i love to watch him wander and do what he will.

there is a birch tree that the grandparents have felled to cut into boards. it's been laying in their yard for at least a year and the neighbor came over a few days ago to get it cut up. well, they got part way through it and left the other part of it in the yard. jeriah and i were walking around the yard and he walked to the cut up birch tree. i don't know what he said (it was jeriah jabber) but he said something, then bent down and patted the tree and said, "it's ok." ha! i just had to laugh it was so cute! who knows what he was thinking. i wish i knew. it's those kinds of things that make being here, being able to go outside and play and explore, a time of pleasure with jeriah. it has made me remember what it was like to be outside when i was a kid. i remember fishing for crawfish, tadpoles, turtles, and frogs. i got dirty with the dirtiest of boys in my neighborhood. i climbed trees, scraped knees, enjoyed nature, and the like. i loved the sense of endless entertainment that outside could give me. i loved it. watching jeriah brings all that back to me and i can be a kid in some way again.
